Cherry blossom season in Korea: when and where
Late March to mid-April, south to north. The best spots in Seoul, Jinhae, Gyeongju and Busan, and how to time it.
Cherry blossoms sweep up the country from the south over about three weeks. Dates shift every year with the weather, so check the forecast from the Korea Meteorological Administration or news sites in early March and book flexible.
Typical timing
| Area | Peak (typical) |
|---|---|
| Jeju, Busan, Jinhae | late March – early April |
| Gyeongju, Daegu | early April |
| Seoul | around the first to second week of April |
| Gangwon (Gangneung, Sokcho) | mid-April |
Peak lasts about a week in each place; the weekend closest to peak is extremely crowded.
Where to go
- Seoul: Yeouido (Yunjung-ro, with a festival), Seokchon Lake at Jamsil, Namsan, Gyeongbokgung with hanbok, Seoul Forest. Early morning on a weekday is the only quiet time at Yeouido.
- Jinhae (near Busan): Korea's biggest blossom festival — Yeojwacheon stream and Gyeonghwa Station. Day tours from Busan sell out; book ahead.
- Gyeongju: Bomun Lake and the tomb park. Blossoms over ancient tombs are the signature photo.
- Busan: Dalmaji Hill, Oncheoncheon stream.
- Jeju: Jeonnong-ro in Jeju City, usually first in the country.
