Daegu
Korea's third-largest city, on the KTX line between Seoul and Busan: night markets, a Buddhist mountain and an old herbal-medicine quarter.
Daegu rarely makes first-visit lists, which is exactly why it is easy. It sits halfway between Seoul and Busan on the KTX, has great food, and few tour groups.
Getting there
KTX to Dongdaegu Station, about 1 h 45 min from Seoul and 45 minutes from Busan. The subway runs from the station.
Must-do
- Seomun Market night market: one of the best in the country for street food.
- Palgongsan: Donghwasa temple and the Gatbawi stone Buddha, where people pray for exam success.
- Kim Gwangseok Street murals and the Yakjeon-golmok herbal medicine alley with its museum.
- E-World and 83 Tower for the skyline.
- Apsan Park cable car at sunset.

Makchang (grilled intestines), jjim-galbi (spicy braised ribs), napjak mandu (flat dumplings), and the summer specialty of cold noodles — Daegu is Korea's hottest city in summer.
Tips
- Avoid July–August if you dislike heat; Daegu regularly hits 35 °C.
- One night is enough; combine with Gyeongju (30 minutes) on the way to Busan.
